What it is

Hareline Krystal Dub is a dubbing blend that combines rabbit dubbing with synthetic Ice Dub. In the hand and on the hook it stays buggy and moves well, while the synthetic content kicks light for a reflective, flashy look. It’s also water absorbent, so it darkens and “comes alive” once it’s wet.

What to tie with it

Use it as a primary dubbing for nymph, wet fly, and streamer bodies, or blend and noodle it onto your thread for a rougher, more natural profile. You can dub it tight for slimmer emergers or dub it loose and pick it out for legs and extra movement on crustacean patterns. It fits both freshwater and saltwater tying when you want motion plus flash without switching materials.

Flies and the fish they're for

Krystal Dub shows up a lot in simple egg patterns, which are fished for trout and steelhead in rivers and tailwaters when fish are keying on drifting eggs. In baitfish-style streamers, adding flash alongside natural dubbing is a common trigger for trout and smallmouth in rivers, and it also crosses over to inshore saltwater where flashy, moving bodies get attention from species like redfish and seatrout.

How it compares

Compared to rabbit dubbing alone, the blend reads more natural while still throwing light. Compared to Ice Dub alone, it doesn’t go as bright and flash-forward, and it keeps more of that buggy, absorbent rabbit character and movement.
