What it is
Hareline Lady Amherst Tippets are neck tippet feathers from a Lady Amherst pheasant. They have a bright light base with strong dark barring, so the bars stay easy to see once they’re wet. The feather edge is fairly square, which gives you a clean, graphic look when you cut slips.
What to tie with it
At the bench you’ll mostly use it as paired slips for wings and as short accent pieces for cheeks, throats, or collars. It also breaks down nicely into individual fibers for tails on nymphs, wets, and some dries when you want that barred, high-visibility look. It shows up in everything from traditional salmon dressings to modern streamer and squid-fly accents.
Flies and the fish they're for
This material is a classic ingredient in traditional salmon flies, where the tippet slips and fibers are used for wing sections and accents aimed at Atlantic salmon in rivers. The same barred slips and cheek pieces get used on salmon and steelhead patterns for anadromous fish in Great Lakes tributaries and Pacific Northwest coastal rivers. In trout streamers, those cheek and wing accents are there to add contrast and a trigger point for browns and rainbows in moving water, and the barred fibers also make a sharp-looking tail on wet flies and nymphs fished for trout in creeks and tailwaters.
How it compares
Compared to Golden Pheasant Tippet Feathers, you’re getting a similar barred effect, but with a squarer edge and a lighter base instead of the golden/orange look. If you like the same banding but want it to pop differently in the water, this is the alternate direction.
