What it is

Hareline Lively Legs Crustacean Brush is a crustacean tying brush built on a thin steel wire core with synthetic fibers and micro rubber legs trapped in the wrap. The wire lets you palmer a full, buggy profile quickly, and the synthetic mix is durable and sheds water easily while the rubber legs keep moving when the fly stops or crawls.

What to tie with it

Use it for bodies and thoraxes by tying the brush in and palmering it like a chenille, then trimming the silhouette to shape for crab and shrimp profiles. It’s also a clean way to build a buggy mid-body on other imitations where you want rubber-leg motion without hand-tying in separate legs.

Flies and the fish they're for

This brush shows up naturally in crab and shrimp patterns, including the popular EP Brush Crab style of fly, which is fished for redfish on shallow flats, bonefish on tropical flats, and permit when you need a crab that looks alive but stays tough. It also fits crab-pot style flies and other crab and shrimp imitations that get crawled for saltwater flats species, or swung and stripped as a buggy leech or woolly bugger-style profile for trout and smallmouth in rivers and stillwaters.

How it compares

It’s similar in concept to Enrico Puglisi Tarantula Hairy Legs Brushes, with wire, rubber legs, and synthetics doing the same job, but the synthetic blend and the available size options differ. Pack count also differs, with Hareline at 2 brushes compared to 6 in the EP option.
