What it is
Hareline Loco Legs are flat rubber legs with a flecked look built into the material. Being rubber, they’re durable and they kick and pulse with very little current or strip, which is exactly what you want when the legs are doing the selling. The flat profile also helps them “swim” instead of just sticking out like stiff antennae.
What to tie with it
Use them anywhere you need legs or extra motion: tie them in as rubber legs on shrimp, crab, and crayfish patterns, or as kicked-out legs on poppers and beetles. On streamers, they’re a simple way to add movement without changing the whole profile of the fly—just lash them in at the collar, the sides, or as trailing legs. For terrestrials, they’re right at home as hopper legs where you want that rubbery pulse when the fly drifts and twitches.
Flies and the fish they're for
They’re used in the Loco Hopper, a grasshopper-style terrestrial dry that’s fished for trout on rivers and streams when hoppers and other bank bugs are getting eaten. On the saltwater side, Loco Legs fit naturally on shrimp and crab patterns that target bonefish on flats, where subtle leg movement helps at rest and on short strips. They also make sense on crayfish patterns for smallmouth and largemouth bass in rivers and lakes, and as added legs on poppers for bass when you want the fly to keep wiggling on the pause.
