What it is
Hareline Loon Ergo All Purpose Scissors are fly-tying scissors built for everyday bench work, from heavier cutting to close, controlled trimming. They have ergonomic handles designed to fit large hands while still working for most hand sizes, and the fine points help you get into tight spots without chewing up surrounding materials.
What to tie with it
Use them for general cutting all along the tying process: trimming thread, snipping and shaping hair, and cleaning up stray fibers during finish work. They’re also handy for cutting hair right off the hide when you’re stacking or spinning, then switching immediately to fine-point trimming to remove a single fiber that’s out of place.
Flies and the fish they're for
These are a “reach-for-them-every-fly” tool, so they show up whether you’re tying trout dries and nymphs that need tight, precise trim work around wings, hackle, and heads, or bass and saltwater streamers where you’re cutting and shaping bigger bunches of hair. Any time you’re tying patterns that rely on hair work and clean profiles, the ability to cut a lot of hair and then pick out one offending fiber matters for how the fly tracks and swims for fish like trout in rivers, or bass and redfish in warmer water.
What to know at the bench
There is a left-handed version available, built specifically for left-handed tyers, while keeping the same all-purpose intent.
