What it is

The Hareline Mega Tying Pad is a fly tying pad made from silicone. It’s non-slip with a divoted surface that keeps small parts from wandering, and the reverse side is non-stick so it doesn’t grab your bench or vise base. The silicone construction is durable and long-lasting, and it works well as a surface for sticky stuff like resins and epoxies.

What to tie with it

Use it under a vise C-clamp to protect the bench top, and as a catch-all to keep beads and eyes contained while you’re building flies. It’s also a handy mixing and work surface for glue, UV resin, and epoxy work when you’re forming heads, coating bodies, or doing little repair jobs at the bench. The divots help keep small piles of parts separated so you can stay organized through a batch.

Flies and the fish they're for

This pad doesn’t tie to a specific pattern, but it shows up constantly when you’re building bead-heavy nymphs for trout in rivers, or stocking lots of eyes and small hardware for baitfish patterns. Keeping beads from rolling and having a dedicated resin/epoxy surface is especially useful on saltwater streamers for fish like redfish, snook, striped bass, and tarpon, where you’re often dealing with eyes and adhesives at the bench.

How it compares

Compared with the Regal Logo Tying Pad, the Mega Tying Pad is larger. The Regal pad makes more sense when you’re working in limited space.
