What it is
Hareline Mini Flat Fly Braid is a flat, woven braid for building slim bodies with a clean, smooth finish. At about 1/8 inch wide, it lays down flat when you wrap it and holds up well to teeth and abuse, which is why it shows up so often in streamer and saltwater tying.
What to tie with it
Use it as a wrapped body material, either directly on the shank or over a tapered underbody, and counter-wrap it with wire if you want extra segmentation and durability. It’s a natural fit for long, skinny profiles like Intruder-style bodies, and it also works well for quick, minimalistic segmented bodies on shrimp and baitfish patterns in both fresh and salt.
Flies and the fish they're for
On Crazy Charlies and Gotchas, this braid makes a fast, durable body for bonefish on flats, and it’s equally at home on other shallow-water saltwater species that key on small shrimp. It’s also commonly used on Bendback Shrimp-style flies, a go-to for redfish and bonefish around grass, sand, and mangrove edges where you want a hook that rides point-up. For smaller Intruder bodies, it’s used for steelhead and salmon in rivers where a tough, slim body helps the fly stay fishing through multiple grabs.
