What it is

The Hareline Mini Leg Puller is a compact tool for threading rubber legs and other fibers through dense fly-tying materials. It has an ergonomic handle with a durable build and a sharp, narrow tip that can get into small holes and tight spots. At the bench it works like a little pull-through probe, letting you grab material and draw it back through foam or hair cleanly.

What to tie with it

Use it to pull rubber legs through foam bodies on poppers, sliders, and other foam bugs, and to pull legs through spun or packed hair bodies where your fingers and a bodkin won’t help much. It’s also handy for pulling fibers through dense materials when you’re adding legs, feelers, or other accents and want them centered and even on both sides.

Flies and the fish they're for

This tool shows up most when you’re building foam poppers and sliders with rubber legs, including small foam popper bodies like an extra-small double-barrel style, where the legs are part of the trigger. Those kinds of rubber-legged foam bugs are staples for bass in ponds and lakes, and they also see plenty of use for panfish on topwater around cover. The same pull-through approach applies to rubber-legged deer-hair bugs, which are commonly fished for largemouth and smallmouth bass in warmwater rivers and stillwater.
