What it is

Hareline Mini Marabou is a small-size marabou feather with a fluffy base and a clean tip. On the hook it stays soft and airy, and in the water the fibers pulse and breathe with very little movement, which is why marabou is such a staple for anything you want to look alive.

What to tie with it

Use it for tails, wings, and collars, especially when you’re tying downsized patterns or want a small marabou collar without overpowering the fly. You can tie it in as a plume tail or wing, stack two feathers for a fuller wing, or wrap it as a dubbed-style marabou body for leeches and buggers.

Flies and the fish they're for

Mini Marabou shows up naturally in smaller versions of the Woolly Bugger and in Micro Bugger-style buggers, where that soft tail and collar give the fly its motion. Fish those for trout in rivers and stillwaters, and they also translate straight to bass and panfish in ponds and lakes when you size the pattern to match what they’re eating. Because marabou breathes so well at slow speeds, these flies stay effective on a dead drift, a slow hand-twist retrieve, or a short-strip swing.

How it compares

Compared to Strung Marabou Blood Quills, Mini Marabou is a smaller feather for shorter tails, tighter collars, and compact wings. Wooly Bugger Marabou sits between the two in size, making it a middle option when Mini is too short but full-size strung marabou is more feather than you need.
