What it is
Hareline Mirage Dome Lure Eyes are three-dimensional dome eyes you glue onto a finished fly. The iris is made from a Mirage film that shifts as the angle changes, with a defined pupil and an attention-grabbing reflective pop that reads like a real baitfish eye.
What to tie with it
Use them as glued-on eyes for baitfish heads on small baitfish patterns and bigger hollow-style streamers. Most tyers stick them on after the head is shaped, then lock them in with a clear coat so they stay put through chewing and casting.
Flies and the fish they're for
These are right at home on Hollow Fleyes, a go-to baitfish profile for saltwater and big freshwater predators. Fished as an anchovy or mullet style baitfish, that puts them in play for striped bass in the surf and bays, redfish on the flats, and largemouth and smallmouth in lakes and rivers. Upsized hollow baitfish flies with large dome eyes are also a common direction for tarpon and permit situations where a bold eye helps sell the profile.
How it compares
Compared to Hareline 3D Adhesive Holographic Eyes, the holographic version has a more straightforward holographic iris, while the Mirage film iris changes its look more noticeably with viewing angle.
