What it is

Hareline Mirage Sheet is a thin, flat mylar flash sheet you cut to shape at the bench. It’s reflective with a built-in 3D effect, so it throws light and “depth” even when it’s laid down smooth on the hook. Because it’s a flat sheet, it covers cleanly and stays slim when you want a tight profile.

What to tie with it

Use it for bodies when you want a bright, flashy underbody or full wrap without adding bulk. Cut it into narrow strips for ribbing, or lay it over the top as a flash-back on nymphs and wet flies, then lock it in with thread and a coating if you like. It’s also handy for small accent pieces where you’d normally reach for flash, but you want a flat, cut-to-fit shape instead of strands.

Flies and the fish they're for

Mirage is commonly tied into the Mirage Nymph, a beadhead-style nymph fished for trout on rivers, including Western freestones and tailwaters where extra flash helps the fly get noticed in broken water. It also shows up as the flash-back or body accent on a Hare’s Ear Soft Hackle, a classic wet fly that takes trout and panfish when swung or fished on the lift in rivers and stillwaters. In both patterns, the sheet’s reflective, 3D look is there to suggest a bright abdomen or shuck without building a thick body.
