What it is
Hareline Mono Eyes are barbell-style mono eyes you tie in like small dumbbell eyes. They’re lightweight, give a realistic eye profile, and add just a touch of weight without making the fly feel like a heavy jig. On the hook they help you build a clear “face” and a defined head shape.
What to tie with it
Use them anywhere you want fly eyes: tied in as a barbell at the front of the shank, or set slightly back to leave room for a nose and antennae. They’re common on shrimp and crab patterns, and they also fit baitfish heads plus stillwater and river bugs like dragonflies, damselflies, and general nymphs. Most tyers lock them down with figure-eight wraps and a good thread dam, then finish the head around them.

Mono eyes show up constantly on shrimp and crab-style saltwater flies for redfish on the flats and around marsh edges, and they’re also right at home on crayfish-style patterns for smallmouth in rivers. Compared with Hareline Mono Nymph Eyes, these are built in a similar way, but the nymph version comes in more natural-looking shades and is the better pick when realism is the priority.
