What it is
Hareline Moose Body is natural moose body hair for fly tying. The fibers are stiff, straight, and glossy with a naturally dark look, and they stack easily for clean, even tips on the hook. That stiffness makes it hold its shape in small to medium patterns.
What to tie with it
Use it for dry-fly wings where you want a durable, upright hair wing, and for nymph tails when you need straight, resilient tailing fibers. It also works well for dark wing patterns and for wing cases on Humpies and similar flies where the hair needs to take abuse. Because it stacks easily, it’s a good choice for tidy hair-wing work without a lot of sorting.

It’s a classic material in the Humpy, a high-floating attractor dry that gets fished for trout in rivers and freestones, especially when you need a durable fly that can handle rough water and repeated eats. It’s also used in Wulff-style dries, another staple attractor pattern family for trout on streams and pocketwater where a visible, buoyant hair wing helps you track the fly and keep it riding high.
