What it is

Hareline’s Morrish Hopper Foam Body is a foam body cutter tool built from stainless steel. It’s meant to punch out hopper-shaped foam bodies so they come off the bench uniform and ready to tie.

What to tie with it

Use it to cut foam hopper bodies from sheet foam instead of trimming each one by hand. Once the body is cut, you tie it in as the back and abdomen of a terrestrial, then add legs and an indicator or overbody as your pattern calls for.

Flies and the fish they're for

This tool is tied directly to the Morrish Hopper, Ken Morrish’s terrestrial pattern that relies on a trimmed foam body shape. Fish it for trout on rivers and streams during hopper season, especially along grassy banks and under overhanging cover where real terrestrials get knocked in.

How it compares

Compared with hand-cutting foam bodies, a cutter like this gives you more consistent shapes from one fly to the next. That consistency also speeds up production when you’re tying a box of the same hopper.
