What it is
The Hareline Odyssey Spider Vise is a fly-tying vise built around steel jaws and an aluminum C-clamp base for mounting to your bench. It’s a true rotary vise with smooth 360-degree rotation, so you can spin the hook to see every side of the fly without taking it out of the jaws. The cam-lock jaw system gives a quick jaw throw and firm hook holding once you lock it down.
What to tie with it
Use the rotary function to wrap ribbing and wire with the hook shank turning under your thread, and to keep even tension when you’re applying dubbing or building bodies. The cam-lock makes batch hook changes fast when you’re tying multiples, and the firm grip helps when you’re cinching materials down and don’t want the hook to twist. It’s also handy for checking proportions and alignment by rotating the fly as you tie.

A vise doesn’t get “used” by a specific pattern the way a feather or hair does, but this one is built for the kinds of flies where you benefit from full access and rotation while wrapping and finishing.
