What it is

Hareline Peacock Eyed Sticks are UV2 double-dyed peacock herl sticks built around the classic peacock eye fibers. They keep that natural peacock shine and texture, but add UV fluorescence and UV reflectance for higher visibility in the water. Think of them as peacock herl you can use either as-is for movement and shimmer, or prep into quills for a cleaner, segmented look.

What to tie with it

You can strip the herl barbs to make quill bodies on nymphs and wet flies, then rib or coat them the way you would any quill. The eye fibers also work tied in as a “roof” over a wing, blended into a wing for sparkle, or even spun into buggy bodies when you want that peacock texture to do the work. It’s a handy material at the bench for adding shine without switching to synthetics.

Flies and the fish they're for

Peacock herl shows up in countless nymph and soft hackle styles, and the UV2 treatment just pushes that visibility a step further for trout and panfish in rivers, creeks, and stillwaters. A Peacock Skeletor Nymph is fished as a general attractor nymph for trout in moving water, and it’s also the kind of pattern you can dead-drift or hang under an indicator when you don’t need it to match a specific bug. Anywhere trout are eating mayfly and caddis-sized nymphs, a peacock-bodied attractor is a familiar producer.

How it compares

Some darker-dyed materials won’t fluoresce much, but peacock herl is known for emitting UV reflectance, and this UV2 dyed version adds UV fluorescence on top of the natural shine.
