Hareline Peak Pick-N-Brush Dubbing Tool
$20.70 USD
What it is
The Hareline Peak Pick-N-Brush is a fly-tying dubbing tool with a durable metal pick on one end and a soft-bristled brush on the other, built on a lightweight handle with an ergonomic grip. The sharp point gets into tight spots to open up dubbing, pick out knots, and clean up wraps, while the brush fluffs fibers without being overly aggressive.
What to tie with it
Use it at the bench to create dubbing loops and then tease and separate the trapped fibers so they move and taper the way you want. It’s also the tool you reach for to brush out nymphs, dries, and streamers, remove excess dubbing, and blend dubbing colors before you commit them to the hook. The pick end is handy for freeing trapped hackle, opening up dubbed bodies, and fixing little thread or dubbing tangles without ripping the fly apart.
Flies and the fish they're for
On Blue-Winged Olive dry flies, the brush end helps pick and “bloom” the dubbed thorax so the fly sits and silhouettes right for selective trout during BWO hatches on rivers and tailwaters. The same pick-and-brush workflow is what you’ll use on fur ants and sparkle ants—flies trout eat heavily in summer on creeks, freestones, and stillwaters when terrestrials are on the menu. And when you’re building tapered brushes for articulated Game Changer-style streamers, the tool helps you form and clean up the fiber brushes that become the body profile for predator fish like largemouth bass and pike, and also big trout where they’re feeding on baitfish.
