What it is
Hareline Polar Chenille is a UV polar chenille built on a twisted rope core with thin mylar strands spun through it. On the hook it makes a full, lightweight body with long, flowing fibers that pulse and flash in the water. It’s durable and simple to palmer or wrap without a lot of fuss.
What to tie with it
Wrap it as a body material the way you would standard chenille, or use it in place of hackle to build a shaggy profile fast. It also works like a dubbing brush substitute when you want instant bulk and movement without spinning a brush. You can use it to prop up soft wings and it pairs well with marabou when you’re building flowing, breathing wing shapes.
Flies and the fish they're for
Woolly Buggers tied with Polar Chenille are a classic choice for trout in rivers and stillwaters, and they cross over well to bass and panfish in ponds and lakes when you want a bigger, livelier body. Galloup’s Bangtail T&A leans into that same big, moving silhouette for trout, especially in streamer situations. In saltwater, Polar Chenille Shrimp and the Big Ugly Bonefish Fly are tied to fool bonefish on shallow flats, where the flash and movement help the fly show up without getting heavy.
How it compares
Compared to Hareline Cactus Chenille, Polar Chenille has a similar overall look, but Cactus Chenille runs shorter and denser in the fiber. Polar Chenille’s longer fibers give you more sweep and movement for the same basic wrap-and-go approach.
