What it is
Hareline Polar Fibre is a synthetic tying fibre on a hide, with long, soft fibres attached to a synthetic hide backing. At the bench it feels incredibly soft and fine, and on the swing or strip it breathes in the water with a natural taper. It sheds water well and it takes markers cleanly when you want to add bars, backs, or a little shading.
What to tie with it
Use it anywhere you want a mobile wing or tail without a lot of bulk: streamer wings and tails, baitfish profiles, and sculpin-style shapes. It also works well spun into streamer brushes for fuller bodies, and it’s right at home for shrimp bodies and shrimp antennae. For topwater, it makes a clean popper tailing material that won’t stay waterlogged.
Flies and the fish they're for
Surf Candies are a natural fit with Polar Fibre, and they’re a staple for saltwater sight-fishing like false albacore and bonito on the move, and also for stripers when they’re keyed on small bait. The Polar Fibre Minnow is a small baitfish imitation that crosses over easily, getting eaten by freshwater predators like bass as well as saltwater fish like striped bass and inshore species that hunt glass minnows. Bonefish Junk Flies use it to suggest shrimp and small bait, and they’re fished for bonefish on shallow flats.
How it compares
Compared with Craft Fur, Polar Fibre runs softer with finer fibres, while Craft Fur is coarser. If you like the craft fur style but want a subtler, more delicate fibre texture for smaller baitfish and shrimp details, Polar Fibre leans that direction.
