What it is
Hareline Polar Reflector Flash Chenille is a long-fiber synthetic chenille built on a thread core with reflector flash integrated through it. It’s lightweight, wraps easily, sheds water, and those longer fibers pulse and move while the flash kicks light as the fly swims.
What to tie with it
Use it like a brush chenille to wrap streamer and popper bodies, or just build a collar at the head for extra push and movement. It also works as a straight chenille substitute on patterns like the Wooly Bugger, and it’s at home on bigger salmon and steelhead bodies where you want bulk without a soggy fly. Beyond standard streamers, tyers also use it on saltwater baitfish, and even shrimp and crab-style patterns as a body or collar material.

Wooly Bugger is the obvious match here: wrapped as the body or used up front as a collar, it’s a go-to for trout in rivers and stillwaters, and it also crosses over for smallmouth and largemouth bass in ponds and lakes. Scaled up and built into flashier streamer profiles, this chenille shows up in pike flies and saltwater baitfish flies aimed at striped bass, redfish, and other inshore predators. Used on larger-profile bodies it also fits salmon and steelhead flies swung or stripped in Pacific Northwest-style runs and Great Lakes tributaries.
How it compares
Compared to Hareline UV Polar Chenille, this version gets its sparkle from reflector flash, while UV Polar Chenille uses UV fibers and reads as a more subtle flash. UV Polar Chenille is often the better pick in clear water or when fish are acting picky.
