What it is
Hareline Premium Hungarian Partridge Feathers are full Hungarian partridge feathers selected for tying, with soft fibers, distinct barring, and strong natural coloration. The feather structure gives you a lot of motion in the water when wrapped as hackle, and the “premium” sort means you’re dealing with convenient sizes and fewer split feathers at the bench.
What to tie with it
Use them for soft hackle wraps on wet flies and emergers by stripping and tying in the tip, then making one to a few turns depending on how buggy you want it. The fibers also make easy tailing and leg material on nymphs and emergers, and you can take slips for dry-fly wings when you want that classic mottled feather-wing look.
Flies and the fish they're for
Partridge and Orange is the classic Hungarian partridge soft hackle, fished across trout water as a swung wet, a down-and-across emerger, or dead-drifted in rivers and spring creeks for trout. Hare’s Ear Soft Hackle uses the same partridge-style wrap to add legs and life, and it’s a go-to for trout when you’re covering caddis and mayfly emergers in moving water.
How it compares
Compared with standard bag Hungarian partridge, this premium selection is higher quality with fewer split feathers, and it gives you full feathers without paying for a full skin. Grizzly Soft Hackle and grouse feathers can substitute in a pinch, but they don’t have the classic Hungarian partridge look.
