What it is
Hareline Pseudo Eyes are brass dumbbell eyes with a built-in pupil look, so you get both weight and the “eyes” trigger in one piece. Being brass they’re durable and add weight without getting bulky, and they help a hook ride point-up for that jigging action.
What to tie with it
Tie them in as dumbbell eyes on streamers and baitfish patterns to set the balance and sink rate, usually lashed on top of the shank so the fly tracks like a jig. They’re also right at home on shrimp, crab, and crayfish patterns where you want weight up front and a clear eye target.
Flies and the fish they're for
They show up on Clouser-style baitfish like a Chinook Clouser, which is fished for everything from trout and smallmouth in rivers to stripers and redfish in moving or coastal water depending on how you build it. The same dumbbell-eye approach carries over to weighted Woolly Bugger-style streamers for trout and bass in lakes and rivers, and to larger saltwater streamers and musky flies when you need a tough set of eyes that also controls the way the fly rides.
