What it is

Hareline Micro Rabbit Strips are narrow strips of rabbit hide with the fur left on, cut to give you a slimmer profile than standard rabbit strip. In the water the fur breathes and pulses on its own, so you get movement without adding a bunch of bulk to the fly.

What to tie with it

Use it anywhere you want rabbit action but a cleaner, less bulky build: streamer tails, baitfish strips, and small claws on crab and crayfish patterns. Most tyers either tie it in as a zonker-style strip over the top or along the shank, or use short sections for claws and appendages on flats flies.

Flies and the fish they're for

Micro rabbit strip is the core ingredient style-wise in “one strip bunny” and other simple zonker streamers, which are commonly fished for trout in rivers and stillwaters, and for bass and pike on lakes and slower sections of rivers. Tied as crab or crayfish claws, it shows up in bonefish and permit flies on shallow flats where you want lifelike movement with a slim silhouette.

How it compares

Compared to a standard 1/8" rabbit strip and other wider rabbit strips, the micro cut keeps the same natural water movement but with a slimmer strip profile and reduced bulk. If you want a wider strip for a bigger footprint, Hareline Rabbit Strips are the broader substitute.
