What it is
Hareline Rainbow Brass Cones are bullet-shaped brass cone heads with a rainbow finish. They add weight up front to help a fly sink and they throw off a reflective, flashy look when they’re moving in the water.
What to tie with it
Use them as a streamer head to build a tapered front end and to push the balance of the fly forward for a more head-first swim. They’re common on leech patterns, baitfish-style streamers, and larger deep-diving patterns where you slide the cone on the hook before tying and then build a thread dam behind it to lock it in place.
Flies and the fish they're for
Woolly Bugger variants are a natural fit for a rainbow cone head when you want the same profile but with more sink and more flash; those get fished for trout in rivers and stillwaters, and they also cross over well to warmwater species like smallmouth in moving water. In the anadromous world, cone-headed leech-style flies show up a lot for steelhead and salmon, where the extra weight helps keep the fly down and the reflective finish gives it a little more presence in current.
