Hareline Red Barred Rabbit Strips

What it is

Hareline Red Barred Rabbit Strips are magnum-cut rabbit fur strips with a barred accent built into the hide. In the water they breathe and pulse with very lifelike motion, so a simple strip tail or wing keeps moving even on slow strips or in the pause.

What to tie with it

Use it for streamer wings and tails by tying it in zonker-style over a dubbed or chenille body, or as a long, mobile tail on baitfish patterns. It also makes convincing claws for crab, lobster, and crayfish patterns, and it’s a clean way to add movement to popper tails and mouse tails.

Flies and the fish they're for

Zonkers are the obvious fit: they’re fished as baitfish and leech imitations for trout in rivers and stillwaters, and they also pull duty for smallmouth in streams and lakes. The same rabbit-strip movement that makes a Zonker swim also plays well when you’re targeting bigger fish that want a bulky, moving meal, like warmwater predators on swung or stripped streamers.

How it compares

Compared to standard Hareline Magnum Rabbit Strips, these are the same cut size but add the barred accent; the plain magnum strips are more subtle and natural. If you want the same profile and motion without the barring, the standard magnum strips are the cleaner look.
