What it is
Hareline Silky Bunnybou Strips are strips of rabbit hide with dense, short, soft fur and no guard hairs. On the hook they stay slim and compress nicely, and in the water the fibers breathe and undulate with very little input, giving you lots of movement without bulk. The soft texture and tight fiber packing also makes the strips easy to wrap or tie in cleanly.
What to tie with it
Use it for streamer tails and bodies by either tying in a strip and letting it swim, or palmering/wrapping it forward to build a fur body. It also fits claw work on crab and crayfish patterns where you want a pulsing, soft silhouette rather than a stiff profile. It shows up in sculpin-style streamers and in worm-style salt patterns like cinder worms where motion is the whole point.
Flies and the fish they're for
In a Sanchez Double Bunny-style streamer, the rabbit strips create a long, flowing profile that’s typically fished for big trout in rivers and tailwaters where swinging or stripping a meaty baitfish look gets reaction eats. The same “double bunny” rabbit-strip approach is also a common tool for larger predatory fish when you need a fly that moves even at slow speeds, like smallmouth in rivers and stillwaters. Minkies and similar rabbit-strip streamers are conventional picks for trout where sculpins and small baitfish are on the menu, and they translate well to saltwater baitfish and worm imitations when you’re targeting species that track by motion.
How it compares
Compared with Hareline Rabbit Fur Strips that include guard hairs, Silky Bunnybou has a softer feel, denser fur, and a more supple swim. The guard-hair version is more rigid and doesn’t pack as densely, so it tends to fish with a stiffer profile.
