What it is
Hareline Speckled Flashabou is a speckled synthetic flash material made of narrow, lightweight strands. It has a muted grizzly speckled finish with fine black speckles and a subtle, natural-looking sheen rather than a hard mirror flash. The strands are durable and run about 1/69 inch wide, so you can use just a few fibers or build fuller sections without bulk.
What to tie with it
Use it as an accent strand alongside other wing or tail materials, or stack a fuller bundle for a complete tail on small streamers. It works well for insect wing imitations and buggy wings, and it’s an easy way to suggest baitfish scale sheen in streamer bodies and wings. You can also treat it like a mylar tinsel replacement by wrapping it as flash in a body or rib, depending on the effect you want.

Flashabou shows up in caddis patterns tied with flash in the wing, like Flashabou Caddis-style flies, which are fished for trout in rivers and tailwaters when adults are on the water. As an accent in baitfish streamers, it’s the same kind of material you’d add to patterns fished for trout and smallmouth in moving water, and for species like stripers and redfish when you’re after a little scale glint without an overly metallic look. The speckling helps when you want that flash to read more like “life” than a bright beacon.
How it compares
Compared with traditional metallic flash materials, the speckled, muted finish reads less like straight metal and more like natural sheen. Compared with plain synthetic flash strands, the fine speckling adds a bit of realism when you’re trying to imitate buggy wings or the broken-up shine of scales.
