What it is
The Hareline Spider Foam Body Cutter is a foam body cutting tool with a stainless steel blade. It has a sharp cutting edge that stamps out clean, precise shapes from sheet foam, and the blade is rust and corrosion resistant. In hand it’s made to be comfortable to grip while you press and twist through foam.
What to tie with it
Use it at the bench to cut consistent foam bodies for foam-bodied fly construction, especially when you want repeatable shapes without freehand scissors work. The usual technique is to press the cutter into foam sheet to punch out bodies, then trim or stack layers as needed before tying them down on the hook.
Flies and the fish they're for
This style of cutter is commonly used for foam spider patterns with pre-formed bodies, which are a classic panfish fly for bluegill and other sunfish in ponds, lakes, and slow water. Foam spiders also see plenty of use on small bass in the same water, especially when you want a durable, floating bug that can be twitched and paused around cover.
