What it is

Hareline Squirmy Wormies are stretchy rubber cylinders made for tying worm-style flies. The material is strong, very wiggly in the water, and it stays the same diameter end-to-end rather than tapering. There’s also a glow-in-the-dark option.

What to tie with it

Use it anywhere you want a simple, living tail or body: most tyers tie short sections in as the worm body, or as a trailing tail behind a dubbed or chenille front. It’s a natural fit for worm patterns and carp flies, and it also works as an easy movement add-on at the back of streamers and jig-style nymphs.

Flies and the fish they're for

The Squirmy Wormy is a staple worm imitation for trout, especially when water is off-color or cold, and it also gets eaten by winter grayling in rivers. The Squirmy Hybrid blends a worm tail with a more built-up front end and gets fished the same way for trout when they’re keyed on worms or simply looking for an easy meal.

How it compares

Compared with Hareline Mini Squiggle Worms, Squirmy Wormies are longer, non-tapered rubber cylinders meant to be tied directly onto the hook. Mini Squiggle Worms are thinner and tapered, and they’re commonly glued rather than tied in.
