What it is
The Hareline Stonfo Airone Travel Vise is a travel fly-tying vise built around foldable, articulated joints so it packs down small. It has an interchangeable jaw system, an adjustable head angle, and true 360° rotary action with adjustable tension and a locking rotary position. It also adjusts for height and can be set up for left-handed tying.
What to tie with it
This is a bench tool for tying flies at home or while traveling, from small hooks up through bigger streamer hooks, using normal rotary tying techniques like wrapping bodies, palmering, and spinning or stacking materials without having to re-clamp the hook. The adjustable head angle and rotary lock are handy when you want to keep a specific view of the hook for precise thread work, ribbing, and setting wings or tails. The interchangeable jaws let you swap to the jaw style that matches the hook range you’re tying most.
Flies and the fish they're for
Because it’s comfortable across a wide hook range and has solid rotary control, it’s the kind of vise you’d use for both trout flies in rivers and tailwaters and larger streamer patterns for species like bass. Streamer tying on a rotary vise typically points toward patterns fished for trout and smallmouth in moving water, and it’s equally at home spinning up travel boxes for warmwater trips. This vise isn’t a “one pattern” tool; it’s a packable setup for building whatever you plan to fish, from smaller trout bugs to bigger profiles for predators.
How it compares
It uses the same interchangeable jaw system as the Stonfo Elite vise, so if you already own (or plan to own) those jaws, they cross over between the two setups.
