What it is
Hareline Stretchy Fly Skin is a clear, durable, stretchy sheet material you cut into strips and wrap on the hook. Because it’s clear, you can tint it with a marker and still let whatever is underneath show through. The stretch makes it easy to get a snug, smooth wrap without fighting it.
What to tie with it
Use it for nymph bodies, emerger bodies, wingcases, and scud backs by tying in a strip and wrapping it forward for a clean segmented look. You can also palmer it to build a ribbed, segmented body, and use different underbody colors or marker tinting to create two-tone shading. It’s a straightforward material at the vise: cut, tie in, stretch-wrap, and tie off.
Flies and the fish they're for
This material is a go-to for scud and sowbug-style nymphs and backs on mayfly and stonefly nymph patterns, which are trout flies in rivers and tailwaters where fish key on drifting nymphs. In smaller sizes it also crosses into tiny nymphs and even some dry-fly and midge-scale applications, where the clear, slim body and segmentation help match small bugs for selective trout in spring creeks and calm tailouts.

Compared with Hareline Scud Back, Stretchy Fly Skin is clearer and comes in more size options, which matters when you’re trying to scale from bigger nymphs down into very small hooks. If you want a less-clear back material, Scud Back fits that role.
