What it is
Hareline Stripped Goose Biots are goose feather biots in a stripped combo pack. They’re flexible, durable, and easy to handle at the vise, and they keep their color and texture over time. On the hook they give you a crisp, segmented look when you wrap them, and they sit cleanly as tails, legs, or little wingcase details.
What to tie with it
Use them for wing cases, tails, antennae, and legs on nymphs, dries, wets, and streamers. They also shine as wrapped biot bodies and abdomens; most tyers either wrap them like a quill body or tie the rib down for durability and control on dry flies. Because goose biots run on the smaller side compared to bigger bird biots, they’re a natural fit when you’re tying small to medium profiles.
Flies and the fish they're for
On Prince Nymphs, goose biots are commonly used for the split tail and/or the biot “horns,” and that fly is a staple for trout in rivers and tailwaters. On Copper Johns, short stout biots are a common tail material, and Copper Johns are fished for trout in freestone streams and any nymphing water where you need a fast-sinking attractor. Stripped goose biots are also widely used to wrap slim, segmented spinner abdomens on mayfly spinner patterns, which are a go-to for selective trout on flatwater and gentle current when fish are keyed on spent mayflies.
