What it is

Hareline Stripped Peacock Eye is pre-stripped peacock eye quill: the quill from a peacock eye feather with the barbs removed. On the hook it wraps into a clean, natural-looking segmented body, and it’s easy to handle compared to stripping your own. It also takes UV resin well, letting you lock in that segmentation with a durable resin-coated finish.

What to tie with it

Use it for palmered segmented bodies on dries, nymphs, emergers, and wets, either as the full body or as a segmented abdomen with another thorax material up front. It’s also a go-to for insect-matching bodies where you want that crisp quill segmentation without bulk, and it’s right at home under UV resin for smooth body builds. If you’ve struggled with stripping peacock herl yourself, the pre-stripped format gets you to the wrapping step faster.

Flies and the fish they're for

Quill Gordon is a classic mayfly dry fly where stripped quill gives you that slim, segmented mayfly body, fished for trout on hatches in rivers and spring creeks. Perdigon nymphs often use quill under a thin resin coat to make a tough, fast-sinking segmented body, fished for trout and other river fish when you need to get down quickly in riffles and runs.

How it compares

Compared with standard peacock eye, it’s the same feather quill but with the barbs already removed, so you get straight to clean segmented wraps. Compared with Hareline Tapered Synthetic Quill, you can get similar segmentation with a more natural look, while the synthetic option trades some of that natural look for durable synthetic consistency.
