What it is
Hareline Strung Ringneck Rump Feathers are bundles of male ringneck pheasant rump feather fibers, strung so you can pull the feather you want without digging through a loose patch. The fibers are wispy and long, and they breathe with excellent movement in the water. On the hook they give you a flowing, mobile look without needing much material.
What to tie with it
Use these for soft, moving collars and throats on streamers, and for fuller streamer collars where you want the fibers to sweep and pulse. They also fit naturally into spey-style dressing where you’re wrapping and sweeping fibers back as you build a collar. Tie them in by the tip and wrap, or strip fibers and tie them in as a throat or accent.
Flies and the fish they're for
Ringneck pheasant rump is commonly used in spey-style steelhead and salmon flies, where that long, mobile collar helps the fly swim and breathe in current on rivers. It’s also used in the Ringneck Rumpster style of fly, fished as a streamer for trout and sea trout. In both fresh and salt, the point is the same: a soft collar or throat that moves on the swing or on a strip.
