What it is
Hareline Super Fine Dry Fly Dub is a fine synthetic dubbing put up as an assortment in a dispenser. The fibers are very small and water resistant, so it makes a slim, clean body without soaking up much water.
What to tie with it
Use it for dubbed bodies on dry flies, spinners, and emergers when you want a tight taper and a smooth finish. At the bench it dubs easily on the thread and you can build small, controlled bodies without getting a fuzzy, bulky look. It also sees use on very small nymph patterns where you want the same thin profile.
Flies and the fish they're for
It’s a go-to body dubbing for classics like the Parachute Adams, a standard mayfly-imitation dry that gets eaten by trout on rivers and spring creeks. Hendricksons and Cahills are mayfly patterns for trout during their hatches on freestones and tailwaters, and this dubbing helps keep the bodies neat and floating. For tiny-water situations, Tricos and Ant patterns are trout flies for picky fish on flats and slow seams, where a thin body and good flotation matter.
How it compares
Spirit River UV2 Fine and Dry Dubbing uses a double-dye process with UVF and UVR, while Super Fine is simply a fine, water-resistant synthetic dubbing. UV2 also isn’t sold as an assortment, so if you want a dispenser-style mix, that’s a difference in how you buy and organize it at the bench.
