What it is

Hareline Teal Flank Feathers are natural flank feathers from Green-winged Teal. They have barred patterning that gives a bold, natural look when you use them as small wing slips or accent feathers on the hook.

What to tie with it

Use them for dry fly wings by selecting matching feathers and cutting or stripping slips for upright or tent-style wings. They also work well as nymph tails when you want a barred, buggy tail, and as streamer cheeks or wet fly wings as a small, visible contrast piece on the sides of the fly.

Flies and the fish they're for

These are a common choice any time you’re tying classic-style wet flies or small streamers that call for barred flank as cheeks or wings, which puts them in play for trout in rivers and tailwaters. As a dry-fly wing material, they fit attractor-style and traditional dry flies that target rising trout on creeks and freestones. As nymph tails, they suit general mayfly and caddis nymph patterns fished for trout and panfish in moving water and stillwaters.

How it compares

Compared with Hareline Mallard Flank Feathers, Teal Flank has a similar overall look but with subtler barring. Mallard flank comes from male Mallard.
