What it is
Hareline Thin Fly Foam is a dual-layer foam sheet with a furry foam face and a strong adhesive backing. It’s thin, lightweight, and buoyant, with a durable, textured surface that adds a little natural “grab” and detail without a lot of bulk. The peel-and-stick backing lets you build shapes cleanly and consistently right at the bench.
What to tie with it
Use it for precision-cut foam parts like crab bodies and crab shells, and for two-tone layered bodies where you want a clean edge and controlled thickness. The adhesive backing makes it easy to laminate layers, stick pieces directly to a substrate, and lock in bass-style tail shapes without fighting loose foam while you position it.
Flies and the fish they're for
It’s a natural fit for Bonefish Crab and Permit Crab patterns, where you’re building a flat, durable crab profile that holds up to repeated eats. Those crab flies are fished on shallow saltwater flats for bonefish and permit, where a realistic outline and a tough body matter a lot. The buoyancy also helps keep the fly riding correctly when you’re crawling or hopping it along the bottom.
How it compares
Compared to standard foam sheets, the adhesive-backed design means you’re not relying on glue just to get your layers to stay put. Compared to non-adhesive furry foam, you’re getting the same textured face plus an added adhesive layer for quicker, cleaner assembly.
