What it is

Hareline Turkey Biot Quills are turkey biot quills cut from turkey flight-feather biots. On the hook they wrap with a clean, natural-looking segmentation, and the fibers run longer and thinner than many other biots, which helps them lay in a tidy, segmented spiral.

What to tie with it

Use them for segmented bodies on nymphs, emergers, and dry flies by tying in the tip and wrapping the biot forward under steady tension. They also work well for small details like tails, wingcases, antennae, and knotted legs when you want a crisp, tapered look without adding bulk.

Flies and the fish they're for

Turkey biots are a go-to material any time you’re tying segmented-bodied nymphs and emergers for trout in rivers and tailwaters, where that clean body segmentation reads well in clear water. They’re also right at home on small dry flies for trout when you want a slim, defined body profile for picky fish.

How it compares

Compared with goose biots, turkey biot fibers are longer and thinner, which makes palmering easier. Turkey biots also tend to give a cleaner segmented body wrap when that pronounced segmentation is the point of the fly.
