What it is
Uni Glo Thread 3/0 is a phosphorescent fly-tying thread that looks pale in daylight and then glows in the dark. You can “charge” it with UV light or just sunlight, and it’ll hold that glow long enough to matter on the vise and in low light on the water.
What to tie with it
Use it anywhere you’d normally reach for thread but want a built-in glow: a hotspot, a small butt section, or a thorax band that shows through dubbing or behind a bead. It also works well as ribbing, and it’s right at home on night-fishing flies and on ice-fishing jigs where a little glow helps fish track the offering.
Flies and the fish they're for
While it’s not tied to one named “signature” pattern, it’s a practical swap into common night and low-light flies to create a glowing hotspot or collar for trout in rivers after dark and for warmwater fish like smallmouth in stained water. On ice jigs, a glowing thread wrap near the head or as a rib is a straightforward way to add a target point for species like panfish and trout under the ice.
How it compares
This is positioned as the glow-in-the-dark thread option, so if you need a thread that will actually store light and glow, this is the purpose-built choice rather than trying to fake the effect with non-glow thread.
