What it is
Uni Nylon Stretch is a nylon fly-tying thread with built-in stretch. It’s compressible and lays flat, so it can cover a lot of shank without building bulk. On the hook it makes smooth wraps, holds up to abuse, and resists breaking.
What to tie with it
Use it for smooth underbodies and uniform, detailed bodies where you want an even surface without ridges. Because it stretches and compresses, it’s handy when you’re binding down materials cleanly and then flattening the thread for a tidy finish. It’s also used to form chironomid gills on midge pupae.
Flies and the fish they're for
It shows up most naturally in chironomid and midge pupa patterns where the gill detail matters, and those are staple flies for trout in lakes and tailwaters. The same smooth-body advantages translate to small, detailed body work for trout in rivers when you need a clean silhouette. In warmwater and saltwater, a durable, break-resistant thread is useful any time you’re building tough, neat bodies that need to stay intact around hard mouths and structure, including bass and redfish flies.
