What it is
Hareline Uni Waxed Thread is a waxed fly-tying thread made from a continuous polyester filament. The waxed coating gives it a high-grip surface that handles smoothly, with a rounded profile that lays down clean wraps. It’s built to resist fraying and to stay put without wanting to unwind while you’re tying.
What to tie with it
Use it anywhere you want controlled thread wraps and good material control: starting a base, tying in tails and wings, and building neat bodies and heads. The grip from the wax helps when you’re locking down slick materials and when you’re stacking wraps for durability on nymphs and streamers. It’s at home on small hooks for dries and on larger hooks when you’re tying medium streamers and need the thread to behave.
Flies and the fish they're for
This thread is a general-purpose choice for dry flies and winged dries that get fished to rising trout on rivers and spring creeks, where clean proportions and tidy heads matter. It also fits right into nymphs for trout in tailwaters and freestones, where you want secure tie-ins and a thread that won’t fray as you cinch materials down. On small to medium streamers it’s a solid option for trout and smallmouth bass, whether you’re swinging them in current or stripping them through pools and along structure.
