What it is
Hareline UV Estaz Grande is a large Estaz chenille made from Mylar. In the water it throws a UV-reflective, lifelike shine, and the frilled fibers stay translucent and flowing with a lot of motion.
What to tie with it
Wrap it like chenille to build fast, full streamer bodies, or to bulk up popper bodies without needing extra dubbing. It also works well as an egg material for steelhead patterns when you want a translucent, shiny egg with movement around the edges.
Flies and the fish they're for
Bob’s Banger uses it to give the body a loud, moving profile; that style of popper is commonly fished for bass in warmwater lakes and rivers, and it also crosses over to inshore saltwater for fish like redfish. Estaz Egg is a straightforward steelhead and trout egg pattern for Great Lakes tributaries and other egg-fishing rivers. Dirty Harry Crab uses it to add shimmer and motion to a crab profile, a common permit and bonefish fly for shallow flats.
How it compares
Compared with polar chenille, it’s similar but with slightly shorter fibers, which can give you a bit more control over bulk and taper on the wrap.
