What it is
Hareline UV Galaxy Mop Chenille is a UV-reactive mop-style chenille with flash flecks and a dark mottled look. It’s built to take abuse, and you can seal the ends with heat to keep it from unraveling. With a little heat you can also shrink and shape the diameter, which is handy when you want more taper or a tighter body.
What to tie with it
Use it as the main body material on Mop Flies, either tied in as a short “mop” tail or wrapped forward as a full chenille body. It also makes quick, bulky wrapped bodies on larger flies where you want movement plus a bit of flash without stacking a lot of separate materials. On the bench, it’s common to tie it in like chenille, wrap, then heat-seal the cut ends for a clean finish.
Flies and the fish they're for
Mop Flies tied with mop chenille are a staple for stocked rainbow trout and panfish in ponds and lakes, and they also get fished for carp when you want a soft, buggy profile. Wrapped-body “mop” style patterns show up as attractor streamers for bass in warmwater, especially in stained water where the UV pop helps the fly stand out. This material also crosses over to crappie jigs, where the mop fibers add pulsing bulk that crappie respond to around brush and docks.
How it compares
Compared to standard Hareline UV Galaxy Mop Chenille, this version keeps the same general idea but adds dark mottling for a bolder, less subtle look. The regular UV Galaxy Mop Chenille is similar but without the black mottling and reads cleaner in the water.
