What it is
Hareline UV Minnow Belly is a thin, limp synthetic flash built to throw a realistic, scale-like shimmer. It has a slight crinkle and a UV reflective finish that adds flash without making the fly look stiff or bulky in the water.
What to tie with it
Use it as the belly or underwing on baitfish patterns by stacking it beneath darker wing materials, or blend a few strands into a wing to give a subtle scale effect. It also works well as a lateral line accent, and you can tie it in as a sparse veil for sand eel imitations and other slender bait profiles.
Flies and the fish they're for
It’s a natural fit anywhere you’re tying baitfish, sand eel, juvenile trout, or bunker-style profiles, which puts it in play for trout on streamer water in rivers and tailwaters. Those same baitfish patterns also cross over to saltwater applications for species like striped bass and bluefish where sand eels and bunker are on the menu, and to inshore fish like redfish when you’re fishing small bait. In other words, this is one of those flash materials that can live in both your trout streamer box and your coastal baitfish box.
How it compares
Compared to Krystal Flash, UV Minnow Belly’s twisted construction helps sell a scale imitation and it stays limper in the wing. Krystal Flash tends to have a more dramatic crinkle and fishes a bit stiffer, while UV Minnow Belly leans toward a cleaner baitfish belly look.
