What it is
Hareline UV Mottled Galaxy Mop Chenille is a UV-reactive mop-style chenille with flash flecks and a dark mottled effect built into the fibers. It’s durable on the hook, and you can singe the ends to seal them so they don’t unravel. You can also change the working diameter a bit by carefully singeing to tighten it up.
What to tie with it
This is classic mop material for Mop Flies, and it also shines as a wrapped or lashed-on body material for larger bugs where you want bulk fast. At the bench you’ll most often cut a section and tie it in as a tail/body “mop,” or wrap it like chenille for a segmented, buggy body, then singe the tag ends to finish clean. It also crosses over into warmwater tying as a body material on crappie jigs.
Flies and the fish they're for
Mop Flies tied with this chenille are commonly fished as a junky worm/grub-style nymph for trout in rivers and tailwaters, including on euro-nymph rigs with oversized tungsten beads. The same mop-style bodies also show up in panfish and warmwater setups, where that bulk-and-flash profile gets eaten by crappie in lakes and ponds, often presented like a small jig or bug.
How it compares
Compared with Hareline UV Galaxy Mop Chenille, this mottled version is similar in build and UV/flash behavior but adds the dark mottling for a less subtle, more broken-up look. The non-mottled UV Galaxy Mop Chenille skips that mottling and reads subtler in the water.
