What it is
Hareline UV2 Coastal Deer Hair is coastal deer hair that’s been given a UV2 double-dye treatment combining UV fluorescent and UV reflective properties. The fibers run short and dense with sharp, tapered tips, and the tips are slightly hollow so the hair stays buoyant on the water.
What to tie with it
Use it where you want a clean, compact deer-hair wing that won’t feel bulky on a small hook. It’s a natural fit for hairwings on small dry flies, and it stacks and flares in a controlled way for comparadun and sparkle dun-style mayfly wings, as well as caddis dry fly wings.
Flies and the fish they're for
Comparaduns and Sparkle Duns are classic mayfly imitation dries for picky trout in rivers and spring creeks, especially when fish are eating emergers and low-riding duns in softer seams and flats. In both patterns, this hair is doing the wing/trigger job while also helping the fly stay riding high enough to see and fish effectively.
How it compares
Compared with other deer hair, this coastal deer hair is shorter and denser, which helps when you’re tying smaller wings and want tighter tips and less bulk.
