What it is
Hareline UV2 Coq de Leon Perdigon Fire Tail Feathers are Coq de Leon feathers treated with UVF and UVR. That UV treatment gives them fluorescent and reflective UV pop for high visibility, while the feather fibers still hold their natural movement in the water. Coq de Leon is also a durable feather, so the fibers stand up well as tails and small accents.
What to tie with it
Use them as tailing fibers on perdigon nymphs and other nymphs by stripping a few fibers off the stem, measuring, and tying them in as a sparse tail. They also work well for streamer and saltwater patterns as tail accents, and you can wrap or tie them in as a collar where you want a little motion without adding bulk.
Flies and the fish they're for
In perdigon-style nymphs, these feathers are used for the tail, and those flies are fished for trout in rivers where tight-line and Euro-nymphing tactics shine. As tails on tarpon and snook flies, they’re a visibility and movement trigger in saltwater and brackish water, especially around flats, beaches, and mangroves. In streamer tails and collars, they fit right into baitfish and attractor streamers for fish like trout and smallmouth in moving water and lakes.
