What it is
Hareline UV2 Deer Hair is coastal deer hair that’s been put through a UV2 double-dye treatment for UV fluorescence and UV reflectance. The fibers run short and dense with tapered, sharp tips that are slightly hollow, so it stacks cleanly and stays buoyant on the water.
What to tie with it
Use it for hairwings on smaller patterns where you want a tight, crisp silhouette without overly long fibers. It’s a natural fit for comparadun and sparkle dun style wings, and it also works well for buoyant caddis patterns where you’re relying on hair to help hold the fly up in the film.
Flies and the fish they're for
Comparaduns tied with this hair are classic mayfly imitations for picky trout on rivers and spring creeks where a low-riding, no-hackle profile matters. Sparkle Duns are also trout flies for mayfly hatches on moving water and tailwaters, especially when fish are feeding just in the surface. In both patterns, the buoyant, tapered tips help the wing stand up and the fly keep floating through rougher currents.
How it compares
Compared with other deer hair, this runs shorter and denser, which makes it easier to control for smaller dry flies and cleaner hairwing profiles.
