What it is
Hareline UV2 Diamond Brite is a fly tying dubbing built from super-fine, shredded micro Lite-Brite mixed with UV2-colored fibers. In the hand it feels very fine and “hairy,” and once dubbed it throws a bright, sparkly look. In the water it shows both UV fluorescence and UV reflectance, so it keeps some pop even when light is flat.
What to tie with it
Use it like you would any fine synthetic dubbing: noodle it onto waxed thread or loop it in a dubbing loop to build tight, even bodies. It’s at home on nymph bodies and on steelhead leech-style patterns where you want a little flash without thick bulk. It also blends easily into other dubbings when you want to add shimmer and UV without changing the base texture too much.
Flies and the fish they're for
This material fits right into steelhead leech-style patterns, the kind you swing or strip for steelhead in Pacific Northwest and Great Lakes tributaries. Dub it on nymph patterns for trout in rivers and tailwaters where small additions of sparkle can help the fly read like a living insect. It’s also a good “seasoning” dubbing to mix into other blends when you’re tying nymphs for trout and want a subtle flash/UV accent rather than a fully flashy body.
