What it is

Hareline UV2 Dubbing Enhancer is a UV-treated dubbing additive made from translucent synthetic fibers. The fibers are UV fluorescent and UV reflective, so they throw a little extra light without turning a fly into a solid, opaque blob. In the mix it stays spiky and adds a buggy texture, and it holds up well.

What to tie with it

Use it as a mix-in with your usual dubbing when you want a rougher, livelier body on the hook. It’s right at home in dubbed nymph bodies and wet fly bodies where you want that spiky “legs and gills” look without changing the whole recipe. You can also use small pinches to make a thorax hotspot effect by simply blending it into the dubbing noodle before you wrap.

Flies and the fish they're for

Fish it in your go-to dubbed-body nymphs and wets where a little extra UV pop helps, especially in moving water. Blended into a buggy nymph body it fits the kind of flies that trout eat all year in rivers and tailwaters, and it also crosses over to panfish and bass nymph-and-wet-fly style patterns in ponds and creeks. Because it’s synthetic and durable, it’s a practical add-in for flies that get chewed up fast.

How it compares

Compared to untreated dubbing, this is about adding UV fluorescence and reflectance while keeping a translucent, spiky, buggy look rather than a smooth, flat body.
